Paint the Town – Bright Lights, Big City Painting Party
Paint the Town for August will be offering participants the chance to paint a van Gogh-style starry night scene titled “Bright Lights, Big City”.

We are offering the social painting workshops every month to bring friends together at various interesting locations throughout the community to paint and have fun in a social setting.  During the workshop SICA teaching artists help participants paint a complete picture on a 16”x20” canvas.

No artistic experience or talent is required.  The contemporary painting this month includes a city skyline against a swirling night sky reminiscent of van Gogh’s famous painting, Starry Night.

The Paint the Town workshop will be Sunday, August 12, from 1 pm to 4 pm at Chateau de Pique Winery in Seymour, Indiana.

The participation fee is $30 and there is a 20% discount for SICA members.  All materials are supplied.

Chateau de Pique Winery is located at 6361 N County Road 760 E south of E. Reddington Street.

While there, participants may taste wines and food and drinks will be available for purchase.

Space is limited so reservations are required.

Paint The Town Offering “Tropical Paradise”

Paint the Town Series Offering Tropical Paradise Painting Party

Paint the Town for July will be offering participants the chance to paint a retro-style tropical beach scene titled “Tropical Paradise”.   Southern Indiana Center for the Arts offers the social painting workshops every month to bring friends together at various interesting locations throughout the community to paint and have fun in a social setting.

During the workshop SICA teaching artists help participants paint a complete picture on a 16”x20” canvas.  No artistic experience or talent is required.  The tropical-themed painting includes coconut palm trees, a big sun over the water, and a sandy beach with flip-flops and a pink flamingo.

The workshop will be Saturday, July 21, from 11 am to 3 pm at Batar Café near Seymour, Indiana.  The participation fee is $30 and there is a 20% discount for SICA members.  All materials are supplied.

Memberships may be purchased through the SICA office and new members will receive the discount on this event immediately.   One-year SICA memberships are available at $25 for individuals and $50 for a family and include discounts for future classes and events at the Center as well.

Wine and Brews Festival at SICA

The fifth annual Southern Indiana Festival of Wine and Brews has a new home. Saturday, June 16, the popular community fundraiser will be held on the grounds of The Southern Indiana Center for the Arts (SICA). All proceeds from the event will support SICA’s work in the arts and culture. Starting at 2 pm, the wine and beer tasting festival will be held on our beautiful, hilltop property surrounding the Art Center. The festival will feature tastings from regional wineries and craft beer distributors, an art market highlighting local artists, and live music on the Don Hill Stage.

Admission is $20 and will include a souvenir glass for tasting. Lucille’s Restaurant will have food items available for purchase. Advance tickets are available at SICA and at Hildreth’s Liquors in Seymour, and at Lucille’s in Crothersville. The festival will end at 8 pm. The Festival of Wine and Brews will support the many arts and cultural activities that SICA brings to the community.

Festival goers must bring an ID verifying their age and are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. No outside food or drinks will be permitted on the property. Numerous musical groups will be performing including Fermata Nowhere, Barney Quick and Public Option.

Wine and Brews Festival at SICA

SICA offers free summer concerts and low-cost art classes for children and adults. SICA’s popular summer art camp serves hundreds of local children and teens. The Center also offers scholarships for art students who come from disadvantaged homes. Paint the Town: Salute is a social painting event for Memorial Day weekend. This painting party will be held on Friday, May 25, at the Salute! concert in downtown Columbus, Indiana.

No artistic experience or talent is required. Begins at 6 pm before the concert begins.  Then at 7 pm the group will finish up their paintings while enjoying the Memorial Day concert, Salute!, performed by the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic.

Paint the Town: Proud As A Peacock May 12

The Southern Indiana Center for the Arts Paint the Town social painting event for May will be partnering with the Jackson County Visitors Center in conjunction with their annual tri-county celebration of ArtSplash.

Saturday, May 12Paint the Town participants will be painting a 17 x 17 pillow cover titled “Proud as a Peacock”.

This vibrant piece of functional art in true peacock colors of sapphire blue and topaz will also be sealed with a flexible varnish to make it suitable for use in the home.

The Paint the Town workshops are held in various interesting locations throughout the region.  The May 12 event will be at the Jackson County Visitors Center located in a beautifully restored old train depot in downtown Seymour, Indiana.

Start time will be 10:30 am.  Participants are encouraged to bring a sack lunch since it will take approximately 4 hours to complete the painting.  The Jackson County Visitors Center is located at 100 N. Broadway St., Seymour. Space is limited and advanced registration is required.

The fee is $30.00 with a 20% discount to SICA members.  No artistic experience or talent is required and all materials are included except for the stuffing for the pillow.  SICA annual memberships are available at $25 for individuals and $50 for families.

Because this event will be held on the day before Mother’s Day, a $5 discount will be extended to all moms who bring a special guest, or any guests who bring their mothers.

Paint The Town at Salute in Columbus

Music Themed Paint the Town Event at Salute Concert in Columbus

The Southern Indiana Center for the Arts is announcing a special Paint the Town social painting event for Memorial Day weekend.  The music-themed painting party will be held on Friday, May 25, at the Salute! concert in downtown Columbus, Indiana.

Coached by two SICA teaching artists, participants will be painting a 16”x20” canvas with acrylic paint.  The artwork, called “Blues and Metallic Hues”, features the outline of a trumpeter whose horn is bursting with bright, loud colors in a modern style suggesting the work of Peter Max.  No artistic experience or talent is required.

The Paint the Town workshops each month are held in various interesting locations throughout the region.  This one will begin at 6 pm before the concert begins.  Then at 7 pm the group will finish up their paintings while enjoying the Memorial Day concert, Salute!, performed by the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic.  The concert is an outdoor event and is performed on the Bartholomew County Courthouse lawn.  The popular concert is free and open to public and includes the traditional firing of military canons during the performance of Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture.  Participants may bring food and beverages or purchase them at the concert from a high school booster group.  More information about the concert, visit the CIP website

All participants are asked to meet at 5:45 pm in the southeast corner of the municipal parking lot off of Franklin St. between 2nd and 3rd Streets in Columbus.  Parking is free.  The group will walk from there to the painting event location.
