FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Abstract paintings with broad, bold strokes of bright paint are the signature style of Justin, the mononymous artist currently on exhibit at the Southern Indiana Center for the Arts main gallery. Oh and by the way, the artist, Justin, is also a horse. Justin is a purebred Fresian owned by Adonna Combs.
“The paintings reflect Justin’s personality, bold, confident and playful,” said Combs. “His technique is unconfined and he is free to place the brush wherever he chooses.”
Combs herself is a visual artist as well as an equestrian. “The process is collaborative,” she said. “I choose the colors and brushes, and Justin applies them to the paper or canvas. It is a very spontaneous process.”
Justin’s paintings now hang in numerous galleries around Indiana and he has had public exhibits in Nashville, Columbus and Indianapolis. Stories about Justin have been featured in Urban Times and INto Art.
A meet-the-artist reception for Justin will be held on Friday, June 8, from 5:30 to 7:00 pm at SICA. Admission to the reception is free and open to the public.
“Justin loves to meet the public,” said Warren Baumgart Jr., SICA executive director. “We are encouraging families to come out with their kids to meet Justin on Friday night.” Combs will be demonstrating how she and Justin work together. “Justin will also take questions from the audience about his work,” said Combs.
After the reception the JCB Friday Night Live concert will begin at 7 pm. The public is invited to stay for a free outdoor concert performance by the Reunion Band.
The SICA gallery is open Tuesday through Friday from noon to 5 pm and Saturday 11 am to 3 pm. Admission is free. Many of Justin’s paintings will be for sale. The exhibit will run through June 30. The Art Center is located at 2001 North Ewing St. in Seymour, Indiana.
Along with the gallery, the Southern Indiana Center for the Arts also offers a variety of art classes including painting, drawing, sculpture and pottery, as well as special classes like glass etching, gym shoe painting, and jewelry making. Private lessons are also available.
