Music Themed Paint the Town Event at Salute Concert in Columbus
The Southern Indiana Center for the Arts is announcing a special Paint the Town social painting event for Memorial Day weekend. The music-themed painting party will be held on Friday, May 25, at the Salute! concert in downtown Columbus, Indiana.
Coached by two SICA teaching artists, participants will be painting a 16”x20” canvas with acrylic paint. The artwork, called “Blues and Metallic Hues”, features the outline of a trumpeter whose horn is bursting with bright, loud colors in a modern style suggesting the work of Peter Max. No artistic experience or talent is required.
The Paint the Town workshops each month are held in various interesting locations throughout the region. This one will begin at 6 pm before the concert begins. Then at 7 pm the group will finish up their paintings while enjoying the Memorial Day concert, Salute!, performed by the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic. The concert is an outdoor event and is performed on the Bartholomew County Courthouse lawn. The popular concert is free and open to public and includes the traditional firing of military canons during the performance of Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture. Participants may bring food and beverages or purchase them at the concert from a high school booster group. More information about the concert, visit the CIP website
Space is limited and advanced registration is required.
The fee is $30.00 with a 20% discount to SICA members. All materials will be provided. SICA annual memberships are available at $25 for individuals and $50 for families. For reservations call SICA at 812-522-2278 or email them at email@example.com. Reservations may also be made at the Art Center Tuesday through Friday noon to 5 pm.
All participants are asked to meet at 5:45 pm in the southeast corner of the municipal parking lot off of Franklin St. between 2nd and 3rd Streets in Columbus. Parking is free. The group will walk from there to the painting event location.
