SOME INTERESTING COMING ATTRACTIONS
The traditional Shaker craftsmanship of Pete Baxter is the featured January exhibit in the main gallery at the Southern Indiana Center for the Arts (SICA).
A Seymour resident, Baxter began woodworking over 30 years ago to satisfy his need to create things with his hands.
About 20 years ago the Shaker tradition of handmade wooden boxes was introduced to him and he has been hooked ever since.
“Today my creative skills of interpreting particular woods and grains to express a visual warmness and excellence with the Shaker traditions and designs continues to improve with each new box that I create,” said Baxter.
The gallery is open Tuesday through Friday from noon to 5 pm and Saturday 11 am to 3 pm. Admission is free. Many of Baxter’s pieces will be for sale.
Baxter’s work was recently juried into the Directory of Indiana Artisans and his pieces will be available at various Indiana Artisan shops around the state.
Baxter’s work will also be included with 125 other Indiana Artisans in the second annual Indiana Artisan Marketplace at the Indiana State Fairgrounds Expo Hall March 31 and April 1, 2012.
