Watercolors by Robert Burris featured at SICA in May

Stop by the SICA gallery to see the beautiful watercolor works of Robert Burris. His current works are primarily landscapes, seascapes, and life figure drawing and paintings. He has shown in numerous shows and exhibits, earning a first place in watercolor at the T. C. Steele paint outs in 2004 and 2009. Robert retired from Lear Siegler, Inc. in Seymour, Indiana, as Director of Creative Marketing Services.

Paint the Town Event for May

SICA is pARTnering with Seymour Main Street’s Lawn, Garden and Patio Show, at the Robertson Feed Mill Parking Lot, in Seymour for their next social painting event. The class is a walk-in workshop, held on Saturday, May 18th from 8-1. Reservations are not required, but would be appreciated to insure the center has enough supplies. Participants at this event will receive a certificate good for a pottery class at SICA’s Pottery Barn. The featured acrylic painting is an 11 x 14 canvas with 3 black-eyed susans. To complete the painting, a garden insect of choice will also be added in metallic paint. No previous painting experience or talent is required. The SICA instructors will help you thru your painting and furnish all the supplies you need. This particular project is for ages 9 and up. Class price of $28.00 includes all supplies and instruction to complete the black-eyed susan picture and a coupon for a pottery class. Call for Artists for Déjà vu Art and Fine Craft Show

On Saturday, November 16, 2013, Déjà Vu Art and Fine Craft Show will be held at The Commons, a civic space in downtown Columbus, Indiana. Having opened just two years ago, this spectacular facility is a great place to showcase your work. Although this call for entries is being sent to many artists and art organizations, no more than 60 applicants will be accepted. In order to present a show of the highest quality, everyone must submit digital photos and an application in order to be juried.

 The following is information that will help you decide whether you are interested and qualified to take part.

  • Since the show is held in celebration of America Recycles Day, you must use scrap materials or repurpose, reuse and/or recycle solid waste materials, at least in part, to create your work. A few applicants who create their work from natural or sustainable materials will be accepted…

The Hurst So Good Charity Ride on October 07, 2012, will celebrate John Mellencamp’s birthday with a Fans by Fans motorcycle ride. The ride starts in John’s home town of Bloomington, Indiana.

Riders will head down HWY 446 to Medora, Indiana where the video “Hurt So Good” was filmed then on to Seymour, Indiana where John was born in 1951, and lived as a young man.

The ride ends in Seymour at the Southern Indiana Center for the Arts, owned by John Mellencamp, with a live band performance by Below Zero, Blues Band.

The event will start at the Bloomington Harley Davidson. Registration will start at: 10:30am, and Kickstands up at Noon.

Funds raised from the charity ride will go to benefit the Marilyn Mellencamp Scholarship Fund and Jayda’s Teddybear Foundation.

Reminder: Aug 12th Paint The Town

Paint the Town – Bright Lights, Big City Painting Party
Paint the Town for August will be offering participants the chance to paint a van Gogh-style starry night scene titled “Bright Lights, Big City”.

We are offering the social painting workshops every month to bring friends together at various interesting locations throughout the community to paint and have fun in a social setting.  During the workshop SICA teaching artists help participants paint a complete picture on a 16”x20” canvas.

No artistic experience or talent is required.  The contemporary painting this month includes a city skyline against a swirling night sky reminiscent of van Gogh’s famous painting, Starry Night.

The Paint the Town workshop will be Sunday, August 12, from 1 pm to 4 pm at Chateau de Pique Winery in Seymour, Indiana.

The participation fee is $30 and there is a 20% discount for SICA members.  All materials are supplied.

Chateau de Pique Winery is located at 6361 N County Road 760 E south of E. Reddington Street.

While there, participants may taste wines and food and drinks will be available for purchase.

Space is limited so reservations are required.

  • Saturday, Aug. 25 at 1pm

The fee is $10 SICA members/$12.50 non-members.
